intimacy choreography

I believe that if audiences are interested in the stories Global Majority, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized identities there should be people with those identities shaping how those stories are told in every way possible. My work as an intimacy professional focuses on harm reduction and creating a culture of consent in every aspect of theatre-making. My practice centers around the joy and liberation of youth and marginalized people.

Directed by Lucretia Anderson

 Richmond Triangle Players -Richmond, VA

  • Choreographed intimate scenes in collaboration with the writer/director of the project while maintaining the boundaries and ensuring the continued informed consent of the actors.

  • Consulted with the directors and with actors regarding their options for modesty garments.

  • Handled complex power dynamics and mental health considerations for a scene involving sexual violence and racially-based violence.

  • Collaborated with the fight choreographer for a fight sequence during an intimate violent scene.

  • Consulted on accurate depictions of queer intimacy.

  • Developed and maintained up-to-date script breakdowns and analyses of intimate moments for the cast and creative team

  • Collaborated with dance choreographer to create stylized intimate scenes 

  • Consulted on racial power dynamics within the LGBT community.

  • Created a pre-show checklist and appointed an intimacy captain to facilitate intimacy calls during rehearsals and performances.

  • Choreographed intimate scenes in collaboration with the director of the project while maintaining the boundaries and ensuring the continued informed consent of the actors.

  • Worked on set with the director and DP to curate intimate scenes that supported and uplifted the unique experiences of trans and gender non-conforming actors on set and that de-centered the cis-hetero gaze.

  • Facilitated a gender workshop for the cast and crew in order to create an empowering space.

  • Created protocols for cast and crew to derole after emotionally intense scenes.
